About Myka

Myka is a small company that was formed out of necessity. As someone who truly enjoys the freedom and beauty of the outdoors, canoeing and fishing our rivers and lakes is a big part of my life.

While I had transported my canoe strapped to the roof of my vehicle, loading and unloading it had become difficult. Not scratching the paint or knocking a mirror off was next to impossible. At times, even with the help of a friend, it had been tough. I wanted to be able to do it alone. I did not want to be dependent on others each and every time I wanted to put my canoe in the water.

I looked to see what was available to assist me in getting my canoe on and off the top of my car. I wanted something that would function at home and in the field. Something that required minimum effort and could be operated by the average person. Something safe, not only for myself, but my vehicle also.

Out of desperation…I decided to fabricate my own.

I attempted a number of various designs that finally culminated with My Canoe Buddy. It meets all of my criteria and is robust, portable, simple to use, and most importantly, safe!
